The Board of OpenAI Approached the Anthropic CEO About a Top Position and Merger: Report

Two persons knowledgeable on the situation claim that the board of directors of OpenAI contacted the CEO of competitor company Anthropic about removing head Sam Altman and maybe integrating the two AI businesses.

According to the sources, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei was refused on both fronts.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-284629″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-hc-requests-delhi-governments-opinion-on-northeast-district-school-buses-r-750×528.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com hc requests delhi governments opinion on northeast district school buses r” width=”1555″ height=”1095″ title=”The Board of OpenAI Approached the Anthropic CEO About a Top Position and Merger: Report 6″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-hc-requests-delhi-governments-opinion-on-northeast-district-school-buses-r-750×528.jpg 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-hc-requests-delhi-governments-opinion-on-northeast-district-school-buses-r-768×541.jpg 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-hc-requests-delhi-governments-opinion-on-northeast-district-school-buses-r-150×106.jpg 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-hc-requests-delhi-governments-opinion-on-northeast-district-school-buses-r.jpg 1024w” sizes=”(max-width: 1555px) 100vw, 1555px” />

The announcement, which was made earlier on Monday, comes days after the OpenAI board fired Altman and prompted several requests to identify his replacement.

Board member Adam D’Angelo did not immediately reply to a request for comment, and OpenAI refused to comment.

Emmett Shear, the former CEO of Twitch, accepted the board’s invitation to serve as its acting CEO on Sunday. In the meanwhile, Altman consented to join Microsoft, a startup’s sponsor, along with other important OpenAI employees. By Monday, almost every one of the startup’s 700+ staff members—including one executive on the now-four-person board of OpenAI—had vowed to resign.

The co-founders of Anthropic, who remained executives at OpenAI until 2020, had left their company due to differences in their opinions on how to guarantee the safe development and regulation of AI.

Google and Amazon.com, two companies owned by Alphabet, have invested in Anthropic. Its Claude AI models have competed with OpenAI’s GPT series for prominence.
