Ahmedabad’s Own: How Maharsh Patel Went from United World Institute of Design to Shaping TikTok, Apple, and AliExpress from New York

Ahmedabad / New York, July 2026: When Maharsh Patel graduated from United World Institute of Design in Ahmedabad with a Bachelor’s in Fashion Design, a career managing social and community strategy for TikTok, Apple, and AliExpress from New York was not the most obvious destination. But that is precisely where the city’s son has arrived, and the journey is one that Ahmedabad’s creative and professional community has been quietly watching with pride.

Patel, who grew up in Ahmedabad before completing his design degree at UWID and moving first to Mumbai and then to New York, now serves as Senior Social and Community Strategist at ATTN:, one of New York’s leading social-first creative agencies. His accounts include three of the most recognized technology brands in the world: TikTok, the platform that has reshaped how a generation creates and consumes content; Apple, whose social presence is among the most carefully managed in the industry; and AliExpress, the global e-commerce giant whose community recovery under Patel’s direction has drawn notice across the marketing industry.

The AliExpress story is the one that has attracted the most attention. When Patel took on the account, the brand faced significant negative sentiment across social media communities, particularly on Reddit and X, platforms where consumer trust is hard-won and easily lost. Building from zero, he established voice frameworks, moderation systems, and engagement strategies tailored to each platform’s distinct culture. The results, measured across 2025 and 2026, tell the story: community sentiment shifted from net negative to 63 percent net positive, exceeding the brand’s own target by 18 percentage points. In ten months, the strategy generated more than 18 million comment likes across more than 10,000 published comments, including a single TikTok comment that organically reached over one million likes.

On TikTok itself, Patel manages the Creator Communities Program, a flagship initiative that activates more than 15,000 creators, ranging in audience size from 10,000 to 38 million followers, across communities in North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Through more than 100 live sessions and webinars, the program contributed to a 40 percent year-over-year increase in creator content on the platform, more than 500 percent growth in monetization-tool revenue, and a 97 percent satisfaction rating from participating creators. The program has hosted cultural figures including celebrity stylist Law Roach, viral creator Jools Lebron, and media personality Bretman Rock, all managed and produced by Patel’s team.

At Apple, Patel helped develop an AI-assisted content-discovery workflow for the company’s Instagram creator initiatives, combining social strategy with emerging technology to surface creator stories that might otherwise remain invisible. It is the kind of work that positions him at the front of a field that is rapidly evolving.

That positioning was recognized formally in June 2026, when Patel was selected as a featured panelist at an official New York Tech Week event. NYC Tech Week is presented by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), the Silicon Valley venture-capital firm behind companies including Facebook, Airbnb, and Spotify, and is regarded as one of the most influential technology gatherings in the United States. Patel spoke at a panel hosted by LIM College alongside representatives from Christian Dior Couture, Hearst Magazines, New Village Braid, and Jennifer Betts Communications, on how emerging technologies are transforming the fashion industry across design, marketing, and the consumer experience.

His academic path laid the foundation. After graduating from UWID in Ahmedabad, Patel moved to Mumbai to work in celebrity fashion styling at Style by Ami, where he coordinated appearances for clients including Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, and members of the Ambani family. The experience gave him a grounding in fashion culture and high-profile brand management that would later prove directly useful in a very different industry. He subsequently completed a Master’s in Fashion Marketing at LIM College in New York with a 4.0 GPA before building the social and community career that has brought him to where he is today.

“Ahmedabad shaped how I think about creativity and craft,” Patel said. “The design sensibility you build there, the attention to what something looks like, what it communicates, how it makes someone feel, that never leaves you. I use it every day, just in a completely different medium.”

For a city that has sent generations of its talent into fashion, textiles, entrepreneurship, and the arts, Maharsh Patel represents something new: an Ahmedabadi whose medium is digital culture itself, and whose work shapes what millions of people see, hear, and feel about the brands that define the modern world.
